Mindful Silence Retreat with Pileena Heuertz

  • Grace Episcopal Church 422 Brenau Avenue Gainesville, GA 30501 (map)

You are invited to share in a special retreat at Grace Episcopal Church as we welcome Phileena Heuertz, author of Mindful Silence: The Heart of Christian Contemplation.

Mindful Silence really couldn’t be more timely. In some ways our society is spinning out of control. People are unhinged from the center and ground of being. This makes them ripe for the graces found in contemplative spirituality. On the other hand, secular mindfulness is answering the anxious minds of many. But people of faith long for me. They want to link their meditation practice with their faith tradition. This is where Mindful Silence comes in. It helps Christians in particular, but seekers from all walks of life in general, to connect the needs of their body, mind, and heart with a wellspring of spiritual depth found in the Christian contemplative tradition.

Mindful Silence is rich with themes of the spiritual journey like “Discovering Darkness is Light,” Finding Liberation by Discernment,” and “Unknowing to Know.” Each chapter introduces the reader to a trusted teacher in the Christian contemplative tradition as well as historic prayer practice.

Phileena is an extraordinary teacher and retreat leader, and she brings her heart and experience to bear in challenging us to delve more deeply into the potential of the Christian Contemplative Tradition. Phileena will reflect on her new book, inviting us to consider what it means to ground our practice of faith in our awareness of God’s presence in our lives. After lunch, we will share in a panel discussion with Phileena and Rebecca Parker, co-director of Mary and Martha’s Place in Atlanta.

The Mindful Silence: The Heart of Christian Contemplation retreat is scheduled for Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 9:00 AM- 2:00 PM in the parish hall at Grace Episcopal Church. The day will include a morning presentation, lunch, panel discussion, and Q&A session.

Cost is $40 to cover food and honoraria and scholarships are available. Please submit a registration form and payment on or before January 7, 2019 to reserve your space.
