Spring Mini Retreat - Sacred Citizenship

  • Amerson House, St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church 1790 Lavista Road NE Atlanta, GA, 30329 United States (map)

Location: Amerson House on the campus of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church

Guided by Kimberly Broerman, Spiritual Director, Deep Waters Center

Whatever our political affiliations, the 2016 election and radical change of administrations, have left many of us with unprecedented feelings of heartbreak, rage, fear, and despair about the state of our beloved nation. We have seen with growing clarity the deep divisions, fears and hostilities among our citizenship, and watched our government move in directions that contradict many of our deepest beliefs and values.

Simultaneously, we have witnessed and experienced a groundswell of new activism and political involvement on a number of fronts, and more truth coming to light around sexual abuse and discrimination, race relations, and gun violence, among other pressing concerns. We have careened between soaring hope and crushing despair.

In this Spring’s mini-retreat, we will reflect on our call to sacred citizenship, how we allow our faith convictions to shape our witness and work to heal the soul of our nation, to continue to form, re-form and transform our democracy into a “more perfect union.” Through deep dialogue, prayer and reflection, we will listen for the invitation of God to each and all of us in these times, how we discern what is ours to do in God’s ongoing work of creation and redemption.

So we invite you in this Easter season to come away to the peace and quiet of Amerson House, to join with other seekers in search of hope, direction, and new life, not just for ourselves, but for our shared life as Americans. We trust and pray as always this retreat will be a time of spiritual rest, nourishment, and discernment for one and all.

Cost: $40 ($30 for St. Bart’s members) - includes lunch and materials. All proceeds will support the work of Amerson House Spirituality Center.
