Fr. Geoffrey and Susan Boyer invite you to dine with them in the company of Sarah Woodward, a member of the Jubilee House Community in Managua, Nicaragua. After dinner Sarah will speak on the Community’s remarkable work and display items for sale from various cooperatives and individuals they have assisted since migrating south from North Carolina in 1994.
The Jubilee House Community through its Center for Development in Central America has been working in Nicaragua for the past 20 years promoting the spread of sustainable agriculture, fostering sustainable economic development, expanding healthcare, and offering educational opportunities in the third poorest country in the Americas. Their efforts have been both astonishing and inspiring. For example this small band of disciples has aided some 3,000 farmers with capital, (organic) certification, marketing and technical support in that time. Their Nueva Vida Clinic has treated 100,240 patients. They have helped to create jobs through loans of 5.3 million dollars to urban and rural co-ops and start-ups, among which is the world’s first clothing line certified as “fair trade” & “organic” from crop to consumer. And among the 163 groups with 2,500+ people and 670 individual volunteers are two that Fr. Geoff has led personally.
Please join us and consider whether you or your parish might be inspired to support this long-standing social justice ministry through participating in a work trip, offering financial support, or planning an informational evening in your parish.
