Advent Quiet Day

  • St James Episcopal Church 260 Warwoman Road Clayton, GA, 30525 United States (map)

Jingle Bells! Deck the Halls! Have yourself a merry little Christmas!

As early as Labor Day, Christmas decorations and paraphernalia can be found in box stores and major chains. The Christmas Craze only grows from there and it can be overwhelming. Implicit in this mania is the message that this protracted Christmas season demands of us only happiness, energy, joy, and effervescent glad tidings.

But the truth is, the holiday season brings with it hard memories and challenging emotions for most of us. In addition, most of us cannot maintain the high level of Christmas enthusiasm recommended, even commanded, by our society. We need spaces to grieve loved ones who are not with us at the holidays, to acknowledge the changes and losses that have occurred from one year to the next, and times to be quiet for meditation and reflection.

With these needs in mind, we invite you to join us for an Advent Quiet Day on December 9, from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Our rector, The Reverend Mary Demmler, will guide us through reflections based on the Blue Christmas service she has led for several years before coming to Saint James. We will pray together, meditate, have moments of fellowship, and reflect together on the challenges of the season that lead us to embrace the hope that is so much a part of this season.

Coffee, donuts, and snacks will be provided. If you plan to attend, please let us know. If you fail to sign up, please do not let that stop you from joining us. This is an event that is open to the whole parish as well as the whole community. All are welcome, even if you don't realize you want or need to come until that morning.

Please RSVP to or 706-782-6179 by December 7, 2017.
